Mike Adams will be featured at VUE Olympia during Arts Walk in downtown Olympia on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5, 2013. Find his creative ceramic sculptures displayed throughout our shelves.
Mike Adams was born in Seattle and has spent most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. Initially trained as a painter, work as a boat-builder in Everett awakened an interest in creating three-dimensional art. The natural beauty of western North America has always been an inspiration for his artwork, but over the past several years his work has explored our interaction with nature and the physical world, particularly the way we transform ourselves through voyages and migration. An ongoing fascination with Norse mythology and Viking ships led to a Fulbright Creative Arts Grant allowing Adams to spend the 2011-2012 academic year in Norway where he created a sculptural installation at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. He was the first artist since the Vikings themselves to have work displayed in the museum. In Norway, he also continued an exploration of ceramics, approaching it from the viewpoint of a contemporary sculptor, yet consciously tapping into the craft tradition of pottery.
